Underfloor Heating
The majority of the population now spends at least 22 of every 24 hours in some kind of artificial climate.
Why Underfloor Heating Systems?
Underfloor heating is far from a new concept, it was first used by the Romans whose dwellings were constructed with voids through which air, warmed by an open fire, would pass, thus heating the structure
Underfloor heating is not a new concept in this country either. In the past electric heating elements were buried within floor screeds. These were heated over night using ‘cheap rate’ electricity. However, this method was expensive to run and uncontrollable and the building would over heat during the day but in the evening, when heat is generally required, no further heat was available.
Utilising today’s modern multilayer pipes, control systems and high efficiency boilers, the underfloor heating systems of today are extremely comfortable and controllable. Radiators are no longer needed so giving more room space. The heat is more evenly distributed and dust is not circulated.
Underfloor heating from the whole floor area of the house gently warms the air above, eliminating cold spots. The warm air convects from the floor surface losing approximately 2 degrees centigrade at 2.0 meters above the floor, which makes the system ideal for all ceiling heights.
Independent tests reveal that the most acceptable indoor climate is one in which the floor temperature ranges between 19-29°C and the air temperature at head level ranges between 20 and 24°C. With radiator or convector heating systems a vertical temperature gradient is produced; colder at foot level than at the head.
Underfloor heating has made it possible to reduce energy consumption by using low water temperatures. These systems, based on the development of complex and very high quality plastic pipe, such as the multilayer pipe.
Underfloor Heating Installation Service
Many of our customers buy our kits to install themselves. Which is great. We’ve personally noticed that the number of e.g. plumbers willing to install ufh has increased massively compared to say a decade and a half ago. A larger number of self-builders also are no longer scared of the challenge to self-install as DIY. We at MAURICO Limited are keen to encourage and support self-installations, and after all we do offer as much technical information as possible plus expert and friendly advice.
Why choose us to be your installer?
If you opt for your underfloor heating system to be installed by our experienced installers, it will prove to be a discerning choice. Our company prides itself on our long standing experience in the field of installation, and we are confident in dealing with unforeseen difficulties that need to be worked around on site, because our engineers have fitted hundreds of our systems, into homes and businesses that have had many different applications and specifications. All our engineers have a “can do attitude”, and we strive to ensure each project is completed within the time restraints and to the highest standard, we at Underfloor Heating Systems, have come to expect.
What’s included?
When we quote for standard installation the following is included: Manifold assembly and installation, laying of the ufh pipe by clipping it down to insulation (other methods are available), filling and pressure testing of the ufh system including adjusting flow rates. Boiler connections and electrical connections are excluded – please contact relevant qualified tradesmen for this additional work. We also don’t lay screeds nor fit insulation – again, get the experts in for each trade. Ufh installers to fit ufh, screeders to lay screed etc.
Site preparation work
Our installers expect the floor to be ready upon arrival. Edge insulation and any potential edging strip be fitted, together with obviously the actual floor insulation with protective membrane above it. Access to manifold position provided e.g. if there is a 500 mm stone wall to feed pipes through, the builder needs to prepare access (in form of a large enough slot). Also a mains water tap e.g. in the garden so we can fill the ufh system.
Installation After care
What happens after installation has taken place? Different tradesmen may take over in form of screders and floor finish fitters, plumbers, electricians etc. But we’ll always be here to help with any potential questions.
